For only the second time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers won their 12th straight game, meaning free burgers for Milwaukee from a local burger chain.
Dating back to the days of the Milwaukee Braves from 1953-65, local restauranteur George Webb “predicted” 12 straight wins for the local team. The forecast finally came true in 1987 when the Brewers opened the season 13-0. The restaurant chain served out 170,000 burgers to Milwaukeeans.
This year, the Brewers won their final 7 regular-season games, an added game to decide the NL Central title over the Chicago Cubs, and then a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies in the National League Division Series.
That left the Brewers at 11 straight entering Friday night and Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.
Milwaukee built a 6-1 lead and held on through shaky eighth and ninth innings for a 6-5 victory.
