Did ‘meaningless’ run in ninth Wednesday really mean something?

Trailing, 5-1, in the ninth inning of Game 5, the Brewers managed to post what folks always call a “meaningless” run in the top of the ninth inning.

Jesus Aguilar started the too-little, too-late rally with a two-out double and scored on Curtis Granderson’s double.

Sure, the run didn’t affect the outcome, but it is possible that double helped the mind of Aguilar, who was 3 for 17 entering that at-bat. Aguilar’s two-run double in the first inning tonight sparked the four-run outburst that has helped the Brewers to a 5-1 lead through three innings tonight in a must-win Game 6.
