Residents of Chicago Googled ‘Brewers’ more often than ‘Cubs’ in 2018

Earlier today, Kelly Bauer of the website ‘Block Club Chicago’ published a review of the top Google searched by residents of the Windy City in 2018. Chicagoans were apparently more interested in this summer’s World Cup more than anything else during the last year, but they were also quite attentive to the baseball team 90 miles to their north, even more so than they were in the two MLB squads that play in Chicago.

Chicago’s top 10 Google searches:

1. World Cup
2. Mac Miller
3. Kate Spade
4. Anthony Bourdain
5. “Black Panther”
6. Mega Millions
7. Brewers
8. Demi Lovato
9. Aretha Franklin
10. Van Dyke trial

Neither ‘White Sox’ nor ‘Cubs’ ranked among the top-10 most Googled phrases by the people of Chicago, but ‘Brewers’ came in at number seven. This past season, the Brewers overcame a five-and-a-half game deficit during the month of September and defeated the Cubs in a decisive tie-breaking game 163 to win the National League Central Division crown. The Cubs were eliminated by the Rockies in the Wild Card game, while the Brewers took the Dodgers to seven games before bowing out in the NLCS.

Milwaukee outfielder Christian Yelich was also named the National League’s MVP after the season, finishing well ahead of second-place vote-getter Javier Baez of the Cubs.

So maybe they are rivals now?
